Cookie Policy

Quick Summary

  • Activist Technologies PBC (“Activist,” “We," "Our," or "Us") uses five categories of cookies and similar tracking technologies on our website and mobile application.

  • Strictly necessary cookies cannot be turned off because they are required to keep our Services working safely.

  • All other cookie categories are optional. You can manage them at any time through our Cookie Preference Center, accessible in the footer of every page and in the mobile app Settings menu.

  • We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal as an automatic opt-out of non-essential cookies used for the sale or sharing of personal information.

a.    This policy supplements and should be read alongside the Activist Privacy Policy (https://activistarc.com/privacy/).

  1. What Are Cookies and Why Do We Use Them?
Cookies are small text files that a website or application places on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you visit or use it. They are widely used across the internet to make websites and applications work more efficiently, to remember your preferences, and to provide website owners with information about how their services are being used.
In addition to traditional cookies, we use similar technologies, including web beacons (also known as pixel tags or clear GIFs), local storage objects (LSOs/HTML5 storage), software development kit (SDK) trackers embedded in our mobile application, session replay scripts, and fingerprinting-resistant device tokens. Throughout this Policy, the term "cookies" refers collectively to all of these technologies unless otherwise specified.
We use cookies and similar technologies for three broad reasons: (1) to make our Services function correctly and securely; (2) to understand how our Services are being used so we can improve them; and (3) to deliver advertising that is more relevant to your interests. Each of these purposes is described in detail in Section 3.

  1. Targeting and Advertising Cookies

    1. Consent Status: Optional (Opt-Out Available, Includes Sale/Sharing of Personal Information)

    2. These cookies are used to deliver advertisements relevant to your interests and to measure ad effectiveness.

    3. Disclosure: The use of these cookies may constitute a 'sale' or 'sharing' of personal information under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) and a disclosure for targeted advertising under other state privacy laws.

    4. You may opt out at any time using the 'Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information' link in our website footer, through our Cookie Preference Center, or by enabling the Global Privacy Control (GPC) in your browser.

    5. Targeting and advertising cookies are used to build a profile of your interests based on your browsing activity on our Services and, if you have consented, across other websites. They are used to show you advertisements that are more likely to be of interest to you, both on our Services and on third-party sites. They also help us measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns.

    6. These cookies are set by our advertising partners, who may combine information collected from our Services with other data they hold about you. We ensure that our advertising partners process this data only in accordance with contractual data processing agreements. However, because these third parties may use the data for their own purposes (including targeted advertising), their use may constitute a "sale" or "sharing" under applicable state privacy law.

    7. You have the right to opt out of this processing. We honor opt-out requests submitted through any of the channels described in Section 6 of this Policy and in Section 7 of our Privacy Policy.

    3. We embed social sharing buttons and, in some cases, content feeds from social media platforms, including, but not limited to, Meta (Facebook), X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, and YouTube. When you interact with this embedded content, such as clicking a "Share" button or viewing an embedded video, those platforms may set cookies on your device. We do not control these cookies, and they are subject to the privacy policies of the respective social media platforms.

    4. Even if you do not interact with embedded social media content, some social platforms set cookies simply by loading our pages if you are logged in to that platform in the same browser. You can prevent this by logging out of social media platforms before visiting our Services, or by using our Cookie Preference Center to turn off social media cookies.

4. Tracking in Our Mobile Application

Our mobile application uses tracking technologies that are functionally equivalent to cookies, including mobile advertising IDs (IDFA on iOS, GAID/ADID on Android), SDKs from analytics and advertising partners, local storage, and application-level session tokens. The same five cookie categories described above apply to our mobile app.

  1. Mobile Advertising IDs

    1. On iOS devices, we access your Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) only if you grant permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt.

    2. On Android devices, we access your Google Advertising ID (GAID) for measurement and advertising purposes. You may reset or deactivate your mobile advertising ID through your device settings:

      1. iOS: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking — deactivate  "Allow Apps to Request to Track."

      2. Android: Settings > Privacy > Ads — select "Delete advertising ID" or "Opt out of Ads Personalization."

  2. Mobile Analytics SDKs

    1. We embed analytics SDKs from other providers, including but not limited to Firebase (Google), Mixpanel, and Datadog, in our mobile application to collect performance and usage data equivalent to our website analytics cookies. Data collected through these SDKs is subject to the same opt-out rights and the same data processing agreements as our website cookies.

  3. Push Notification Tokens

    1. If you grant permission for push notifications, we receive a push notification token from Apple (APNs) or Google (FCM). This token is used solely to deliver notifications you have requested and is not used for advertising tracking. You may revoke push notification permissions at any time through your device settings.

5. Third-Party Cookies and Your Choices with Third Parties

Some cookies on our Services are set by third-party companies, not by us. These third parties set cookies in accordance with their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review. While we contractually restrict how our service providers use data, third parties in our advertising ecosystem may use data they collect on our Services for their own purposes, including building advertising profiles that follow you across the internet.

  1. Key third-party privacy opt-out resources:

    1. Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) Opt-Out: https://optout.networkadvertising.org

    2. Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) Opt-Out: https://optout.aboutads.info

    3. DAA's AppChoices for Mobile Opt-Out: https://youradchoices.com/appchoices

    4. Google Ad Settings: https://adssettings.google.com

    5. Meta Ad Preferences: https://www.facebook.com/ads/preferences

    6. Microsoft Advertising Opt-Out: https://about.ads.microsoft.com/en/resources/policies/personalized-ads

    7. LinkedIn Ad Preferences: https://www.linkedin.com/psettings/advertising

  2. Please note that opting out through these industry tools does not remove cookies from your browser. The actions described above place an "opt-out cookie" that signals your preference. If you clear your browser cookies, you may need to resubmit your opt-out preferences.

6. Your Cookie Choices and How to Exercise Them

  1. Cookie Preference Center

    1. Our Cookie Preference Center ("CPC") is the primary way to manage your cookie preferences. The CPC is accessible:

      1. On our website: via the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer of every page.

      2. In our mobile app: via Settings > Privacy > Cookie & Tracking Preferences.

      3. By clicking the "Manage Cookies" button in the initial consent banner shown on your first visit.

    2. Within the CPC, you can toggle each optional cookie category on or off. Your choices are saved and applied immediately. We honor choices made in the CPC for up to 12 months, after which we will ask you to renew your preferences. You may update your choices at any time, and there is no limit on how often you may change your preferences.

  2. Global Privacy Control (GPC)

    1. We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, a browser-level setting that automatically signals your opt-out preference to all websites you visit. When we detect a GPC signal from your browser, we treat it as an opt-out of the sale and sharing of your personal information under applicable state law (including the CCPA/CPRA) and as an opt-out of all non-essential cookies. You do not need to submit any additional requests when you have enabled GPC.

    2. To enable GPC, use a compatible browser or extension such as Privacy Badger, DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser, Brave, or Firefox with a GPC extension. For a current list of GPC-compatible tools, visit globalprivacycontrol.org.

  3. Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

    1. Because our advertising cookies may constitute a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under California law and an opt-out eligible disclosure under other state laws, we provide a dedicated opt-out mechanism in addition to the CPC. You may opt out of the sale and sharing of your personal information by:

      1. Clicking the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link in the footer of our website.

      2. Navigating to Settings > Privacy > Do Not Sell or Share My Data in our mobile application.

      3. Submitting a request through our Privacy Request Portal at https://activistarc.com/privacy/.

      4. Emailing privacy@activistarc.com with the subject line "DSOP Request."

    2. We will process opt-out requests within 15 business days. Opting out of sale and sharing also automatically deactivates all Targeting and Advertising cookies.

  4. Browser-Level Cookie Controls

    1. All major browsers allow you to manage cookies through your browser settings. The following links provide instructions for the most common browsers:

      1. Google Chrome: chrome://settings/cookies

      2. Mozilla Firefox: about:preferences#privacy

      3. Apple Safari (Mac): Safari > Preferences > Privacy

      4. Apple Safari (iOS): Settings > Safari > Privacy & Security

      5. Microsoft Edge: edge://settings/privacy

      6. Brave: brave://settings/cookies

    2. Please be aware that blocking all cookies through your browser settings will deactivate strictly necessary cookies and may significantly impair the functionality of our Services. If you clear your cookies after managing your preferences in our CPC, you will need to re-enter your preferences on your next visit.

  5. Do Not Track (DNT)

    1. Some browsers transmit a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal to websites. Unlike the GPC signal, there is no agreed-upon industry standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals, and we do not alter our data collection practices in response to DNT signals. We encourage you to use GPC instead, which we fully honor.

7. Consent, Legal Basis, and State-Specific Requirements

  1. Under applicable US state privacy laws, the legal basis for our use of non-essential cookies is your consent, which you provide through our Cookie Preference Center or GPC signal. For strictly necessary cookies, we do not require consent because their use is necessary to fulfill the service you have requested.

  2. California (CCPA/CPRA)

    1. California residents may opt out of the sale and sharing of personal information collected through advertising cookies by using any method described in Section 6. We treat GPC signals as a valid opt-out. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of California residents under 18 years of age. We do not use sensitive personal information collected through cookies for purposes beyond those permitted without an opt-out or opt-in right.

  3. Other State Laws

    1. Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws in effect have the right to opt out of the use of their personal information for targeted advertising and, where applicable, the sale of personal data. All opt-out mechanisms described in this Policy satisfy the opt-out requirements of these state laws. We honor GPC signals as an opt-out across all applicable jurisdictions.

  4. Children and Minors Under 18

    1. We do not knowingly use advertising, targeting, or performance cookies to track users we know to be under 18 years of age. If our age-gate mechanisms identify a user as under 18, or if a user self-identifies as under 18, we do not allow them to access the Service or collect any of their data. If you believe we have incorrectly categorized a user's age, please contact privacy@activistarc.com.

8. Personal Information Processed Through Cookies

  1. The following categories of personal information may be collected through our cookies and similar technologies:

    1. Identifiers: IP address (truncated for analytics); mobile advertising ID (IDFA/GAID); cookie ID; user ID (if logged in).

    2. Internet activity: Pages visited, features used, links clicked, search queries on our Services, referring URLs, session duration, and approximate time of access.

    3. Device and technical data: Browser type and version, operating system, screen resolution, device type, and network type.

    4. Approximate geolocation: Country, state, and city derived from IP address. We do not collect precise geolocation through cookies.

    5. Commercial information: Products viewed, items placed in cart, and purchase events (for conversion tracking).

    6. Inferences: Interest segments and advertising audience categories inferred from browsing behavior (for targeted advertising cookies only).

  2. We do not use cookies to collect sensitive personal information such as health data, financial account numbers, Social Security numbers, biometric data, or precise geolocation. If such information is required for a specific feature, it is collected through secure, direct input mechanisms and is not stored in cookies.

9. How Cookie Data Is Shared

Data collected through strictly necessary and functionality cookies is not shared with third parties for commercial purposes. Data collected through performance and analytics cookies is shared only with our analytics service providers under data processing agreements that prohibit secondary use.

Data collected through targeting and advertising cookies is shared with our advertising partners and may be combined with data from other sources to build audience segments for targeted advertising. This sharing may constitute a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under applicable state law. You may opt out of this sharing at any time as described in Section 6.

We do not sell data collected through cookies to data brokers. We do not share cookie data with government entities except as required by law or valid legal process.

10. Cookie Data Retention

  1. Cookie retention periods vary by cookie type and are set out in the inventory tables in Section 3. As a general rule:

    1. Session cookies expire automatically when you close your browser or end your app session.

    2. Persistent cookies remain on your device for the period specified in the cookie inventory or until you delete them through your browser or device settings.

    3. Analytics data derived from cookies is retained in our analytics platforms for a maximum of 26 months before being aggregated or deleted.

    4. Advertising audience data derived from cookies is retained for a maximum of 13 months, consistent with the policies of our advertising partners.

  2. You may delete cookies from your device at any time using your browser's built-in tools or your mobile device's app data management features. Deleting cookies will also clear your CPC preferences, and you will be asked to reselect them on your next visit.

11. Updates to This Cookie Policy

  1. We review and update this Cookie Policy at least annually, and whenever we make significant changes to our use of cookies or the technologies described herein. When we make material changes, we will: (a) update the "Last Revised" date at the top of this Policy; (b) post the revised Policy on our website and app; and (c) where required, display a new consent banner or notification to affected users.

  2. For minor changes (such as updating the cookie inventory to add or remove a specific cookie), we will update the Policy and the "Last Revised" date without separately notifying users, provided the change does not expand the categories of data collected or the purposes for which it is used.
